OK, hands up if you want long, thick lashes?
I've certainly got mine up. I came across this product at PLAZA in Japan and it had its own stand. Its pretty packaging stood out and I couldn't resist but grab a few. According to the packaging:
"Just apply to eyelids for strong, thick lashes"
The low down:- Apply twice a day on eyelids and top and bottom eyelashes
- You can use it as an eye cream to moisturise your eye area
- The Matsuge Biyou-eki + 1 week later = ?? PROFIT ?? Just kidding, strong eyelashes
- OK on extensions
- Number 1 best seller eyelash care product between Nov 2015-Jan 2016 (and probably for other periods of times too)
I admit, I am an absolute sucker when it comes to eyelash products because they really do open up your eyes and look pretty on their own. At ¥1200+tax each (5g) it's an OK price point. Slightly pricey given it is 5g, but a little does seem to go a long way. The packaging is well thought out (though the outer packaging with its plastic does make me cringe a bit), in the respect that it is simple and does the job.
The lid looks over the top, but apparently it can be used as an eye massager by applying the tip with gently to certain points around your eye area to help boost circulation and also slow down wrinkles. From memory there were instructions included (I think inside the packaging), but I can't be bothered opening a new one since I haven't quite finished this one yet.
The serum is a clear gel, a bit like the consistency of jelly. It feels cool and smooth upon application, but if you apply too much you do get a little bit of a sticky feeling. I am not sure if I would recommend this before makeup, despite it being a twice per day application.
As for the effects of an eye cream, I say it is satisfactory and does its job. I don't feel any firming effects - just a simple moisture boost, and I do like the fact it is clear. Just only a tiny dollop will do - I have squeezed out more to show what the gel is like as the back of my hand is ugly.
For the most important part about strengthening eyelashes - does it work?
Originally I purchased it because my husband wanted to grow out his eyebrows (funny and long story but he ended up microblading them), and this product apparently said somewhere it helped in that department. We never experimented with that. I also haven't been religiously applying this - I maybe used it for a month straight, which is probably enough to come to a conclusion.
Unfortunately for me, I don't really see much difference in my lashes. I have used products in the past that have had an incredible effect (I will add a link here later when I update and repurchase the new product in May 2020), but sadly this is not one.
I don't see my lashes any longer than previously (though I admit they are fairly long to begin with). As for strengthening or thickening - nothing worth noting in particular.

What I do like about it however it is that it is free from 10 things like colour, fragrance, silicon, oil, parabens, alcohol etc. so it does feel safe to use. (I'm not sure if I am reading it wrong but it is also gluten free?!)
This is a premium product just based on the packaging and price point (I took a photo of the packaging but it's not a very good one - you might want to just do a Google), though it is still affordable.
To be honest I probably wouldn't purchase it again for my eyelashes, but I might as an eye cream, depending on if I can find a better substitute. This is pretty close to being a good one and worth a shot, even if it is for that 1% chance of longer and thicker eyelashes.
How did you find this product? Are you interested to try? Previously I reviewed another product and while it worked for me, it didn't work for others. Maybe for this one I'm one of the ones who didn't see much of a difference, but maybe it worked wonders for you. Let me know in the comments below.
Yours,
